Cambridge A Level Chemistry (9071)

Cambridge AS Level Chemistry is part of the Cambridge International AS & A Level Chemistry syllabus (9701), which covers the main theoretical concepts and practical skills in chemistry. The syllabus is divided into four sections: physical chemistry, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry and analysis, and practical assessment. You can find the full syllabus and other support materials on the Cambridge International website.

The examination consists of three papers: Paper 1: Multiple Choice, Paper 2: AS Level Structured Questions, and Paper 3: Advanced Practical Skills. Paper 1 tests your knowledge and understanding of the subject content, Paper 2 tests your ability to apply your knowledge and understanding to solve problems, and Paper 3 tests your practical skills and techniques. You can find past papers, specimen papers, and mark schemes on the School Support Hub.

To prepare effectively for the examination, you need to master the subject content, develop your problem-solving and analytical skills, and practice your practical skills. Here are some tips and tricks that might help you:

  • Review the syllabus and the assessment objectives regularly to make sure you know what is expected of you and what topics you need to cover.
  • Use a variety of resources to study, such as textbooks, revision guides, videos, and online courses. For example, you can use the Cambridge International AS and A Level Chemistry Coursebook, the Cambridge International AS and A Level Chemistry Revision Guide, and the Resource Plus videos and teaching materials.
  • Make notes, summaries, flashcards, and mind maps to help you remember the key concepts, definitions, formulas, and equations. You can also use the Data Booklet to familiarize yourself with the common data and information that you will need in the examination.
  • Practice solving questions and problems from different sources, such as past papers, specimen papers, textbooks, and online quizzes. Try to explain your reasoning and show your working clearly. Check your answers with the mark schemes and learn from your mistakes.
  • Practice your practical skills and techniques by doing experiments, demonstrations, and simulations. Follow the instructions carefully and record your observations, results, and conclusions accurately. You can also use the Practical Workbook to improve your practical skills and prepare for Paper 3.
  • Seek feedback and guidance from your teachers, tutors, and peers. Ask questions, discuss ideas, and share your work with them. They can help you identify your strengths and weaknesses, and give you suggestions on how to improve.
  • Plan your revision time and set realistic goals. Review your progress regularly and adjust your plan accordingly. Avoid cramming and procrastination, and take breaks when you need to. Try to maintain a balanced and healthy lifestyle, and stay positive and motivated.

I hope this information and resources are helpful for you. Good luck with your Cambridge AS Level Chemistry examination! 😊
